The Scarecrow Festival will be taking place in Heather again this year. It will be held from Sunday 2nd August for one week. So if you live in Heather, watch out for the application form to make a scarecrow - it should be through your door any time now. If you don't live in Heather, this is a super event when the village is full of people looking at the varied and imaginative scarecrows that are displayed outside many of the homes in the village. A great day out for families, young and old. Food available at various venues, ice cream and sweets from the village shop and ice cream vans. Picnic places around the village. Come and enjoy! Wed, 20 May 2009 20:54 Telephone Box The telephone box on Main Street is scheduled to be removed by British Telecom due to the lack of use. There are a number of ways in which the box can be kept in the village, one being for it to be sponsored by the Parish Council. The cost of this was considerable and the number of calls made from the box showed that this would be an excessive cost to the village. It can, however, be adopted so that the kiosk stays in situ but with no equipment in it. A resident of the village has offered to adopt it and maintain it so that the village retains the familiar site of a telephone box on Main Street. Wed, 20 May 2009 20:49 Affordable Housing Work is progressing with this project following a survey that was completed last year. It is anticipated that we will be able to hold a Public Consultation about this project in the summer. Plans have been drawn up and discussions are being held between the District Council and County Highways to ensure that there are no problems when the Planning Application is submitted. The date for the consultation will be advertised on this web site and on the Village Notice Boards. Tue, 17 Mar 2009 13:58 ![]() Attention all Youth Leaders!! These were fitted shortly after Christmas. There is also a new gate at this play area. It was suggested that it would be better to have a gate as well as a barrier at the previous inspection, but it was not an urgent matter. The council considered that safety of children in that area should be a high priority and so budgeted for a gate to be fitted during this financial year. Having had the swings painted and treated earlier this year, the area is now looking good. Wed, 04 Feb 2009 23:30 Heather Cemetery You may have been concerned about the considerable number of mole hills that have appeared at the cemetery recently. The Parish Council have had a Pest Control Officer to examine the area and he has set a number of traps. We hope that the cemetery will soon be clear of mole hills altogether. Fri, 14 Nov 2008 22:09 Heather Parish Council has produced a Welcome Pack to assist anyone moving in to the village to settle down quickly and to be aware of the facilities and services that are available in the area. Click on the heading to go to the download page. Fri, 10 Oct 2008 23:45 Following on from the news item below about the Swepstone Road Recreation Ground, the youth shelter has been vandalised by someone having sprayed red paint on it. If anyone in the village has knowledge of who might have done this, please contact our local beat policeman, PC112 Roy Houghton. The young people in this village worked hard to obtain this equipment and are very concerned that someone would vandalise it in this way. Fri, 10 Oct 2008 23:39 Village Shop Heather Stores now open |
